Diagenetic Processes in Aquaculture Ponds Showing Metal Accumulation on Shrimp Gills

چکیده
The gill is the organ by which many toxic metals are taken up crustaceans. Iron known to precipitate at its surface, a phenomenon recently observed in some tropical aquaculture ponds. present study uses field approach understand better environmental conditions and ecological processes involved this deposit. Because shrimp exposed reduced products originating from organic waste accumulated sediment, spatial variation pH, redox potential concentrations of dissolved pore water were investigated these Total carbon, acid volatile sulfide pyrite also analyzed solid phase. Fe 2+ waters showed high variability between ponds within same pond with 1,193 μmol l –1 . Behaviors , Mn Co similar. Four geochemical environments identified, based on their physico-chemical characteristics. Highest for sediment occurred slightly acidic suboxic conditions. When became anoxic, H 2 S produced reacted and/or form pyrite. pH increased, concentration free rose 736 With neutral conditions, metal could be controlled precipitation as oxides hydroxides. production suggested existence possible process acidification two crop periods through sulfuric acid. This increase age cause accumulation after 30 years activity.

North Carolina’s Blue Crab Fishery As North Carolina’s number one fishery, blue crabs, Callinectes sapidus, are part of an important industry for numerous coastal communities. The fishery supports commercial fishermen, dealers, gear providers and processors throughout the year. Fluctuations in landings have led to concerns over crab populations and the livelihood of the commercial crabbers they...

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food sector globally and is established itself as high protein resource to fulfill the food demand since the natural resources exhibits over exploitation. But, presently, the biggest problem faced by the aquaculture industry worldwide is diseases caused due to various biological and non-biological agents. Among the groups of microorganisms that cause serious l...
متن کاملCO2 Efflux from Shrimp Ponds in Indonesia
The conversion of mangrove forest to aquaculture ponds has been increasing in recent decades. One of major concerns of this habitat loss is the release of stored 'blue' carbon from mangrove soils to the atmosphere. In this study, we assessed carbon dioxide (CO₂) efflux from soil in intensive shrimp ponds in Bali, Indonesia. We measured CO₂ efflux from the floors and walls of shrimp ponds. Rates...
متن کاملProbiotics as Antiviral Agents in Shrimp Aquaculture
Shrimp farming is an aquaculture business for the cultivation of marine shrimps or prawns for human consumption and is now considered as a major economic and food production sector as it is an increasingly important source of protein available for human consumption. Intensification of shrimp farming had led to the development of a number of diseases, which resulted in the excessive use of antim...
